Thanks for a great first week and welcome to week 2 of Ashgrove’s Virtual Adventure – the fun continues!
We’re halfway through Week One! Make sure to checkout Virtual Ashgrove pictures on our photo page (the paper beads seem to be a particular favorite) and keep the snapshots coming.
Where are the Virtually Incognito Really Absent Leaders?
Ashgrove Adventure is about FUN and CONNECTION. With current world-wide health and safety concerns requiring us to cancel our in-person playtime in the woods at Camp Crowell this summer, we all still need and want to have fun and connect.
We recognize that many families are on overload with requirements of multi-tasking work, school, and family at home. To address all these concerns and needs, Ashgrove Adventure will be offering virtual activities/ at home activities for anyone who would like to participate. We want you and your family to have fun, in your own time and space, and be able to connect with the rest of Ashgrove virtually. There’s no obligation to participate.
On June 22, and on each day we would have been at camp, we will be posting a variety of activities for the day. As ‘camp’ gets closer, we will post a supply list and suggested preparations to be able to fully participate. (Supplies will be designed to be readily available in most homes, low cost so as not to burden any family during these uncertain financial times, and easily available through grocery stores or stores offering curb-side pick-up to allow participants to continue social distancing.)
So, dig out your fun t-shirts (Ashgrove or Girl Scout shirts if you have them) and shorts (no shoes or knee-socks required at home!) and get ready to have fun and connect as we explore Ashgrove’s Virtual Adventure. “Camping” days will soon be here with Ashgrove and we’re going to have a lot of FUN!
Those of you who were registered for Ashgrove Adventure 2020 should have received an email from GSCNC informing you that all in-person summer camps are being cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
You will receive a full refund back to your original payment method in the next 2-3 weeks. If you have any questions, please reach out to the GSCNC Customer Care team at email@example.com.
I’m sure you’re as disappointed as we are, but the fun and games will be back in 2021 – literally! We now have an extra 12 months to brainstorm and prepare our Games & Giggles Galore theme, which means Ashgrove Adventure 2021 will be some seriously amazing fun in the sun.
We hope you stay safe and look forward to seeing you again next summer.
Dozens of Ashgrove center adults and aides gathered this week to kick off our planning for Ashgrove 2020. We may be under stay-at-home orders until June 10th, but that gives us almost two weeks before the start of camp, right?
While we wait to see how the situation evolves, we’ll be busy getting creative, planning program, drawing snowmen, and generally making merry!
For years, one of our mottos at camp – come rain or soaring temperatures or fires that won’t start or any of the other little mishaps that can happen while playing in the out of doors – is “camp happens.”
The COVID-19 pandemic and mandated social distancing threw a bit of a wrench in our final Task Group meeting, but we made the leap into the 21st century and gathered by Zoom to continue our discussion of emergency procedures, discuss camp numbers, and vote on the designs for for this year’s patches and t-shirts.
We had quite the full house!
Ashgrove’s Task Group meets monthly from September through March to vote on and discuss a wide variety of camp-related administrative issues. Any adult volunteer is welcome to join us on the third Thursdays of the month 6:30-9pm (well, the first half hour is socializing, so call it 7-9pm if you’re in a time crunch).
This past meeting, we had some knotty fun, reviewed registration numbers, discussed publicity, and evaluated our existing emergency procedures with an eye towards condensing 11 pages (!!) of information into something more streamlined and easy to consult. Those who showed up early also got to consult on a new Camp Crowell specific badge that GSCNC is putting together – collect all the camps! But I’m pretty sure, attempting to unknot ourselves took longer than all the other activities combined.
Ready for Ashgrove 2020? Our theme will be Games, Games, Games and the official camp dates are June 22nd-July 2nd!
(For staff: set-up is June 18th-20th, and clean-up is July 3rd)
